Get to Know a Delta!

Meet Kristin Knopf!

Hey Girls!!!
My name is Kristin Knopf and I am a rising sophomore from Charleston, West Virginia. I haven’t decided on a major yet, but I will probably end up in some kind of business major with a possible Spanish minor. I love to travel, so I plan on going abroad at some point, and as of now I’m considering Buenos Aires. After undergrad, I plan on going to some type of graduate school, although I have no idea for what yet… minor details!

This summer, I worked as a customer service representative at my mom’s office, which basically meant that I answered phones and listened to people complain all day long while trying to help any way I could. Oh the stories and things you hear…it was ridiculous but I loved it because it never failed to be interesting to say the least. Besides working, I got to travel some this summer which was wonderful. My family and one of my friends went to the Bahamas two days after I drove back home from Rhodes. Shortly after, my sister and I were fortunate enough to go on a business trip to Boston where we met other kids interested in family business, as well as several family business owners themselves. In June and July I went to Hilton Head to spend a week with each side of my family, and in between, went to Myrtle Beach with my friends for a few days. Apart from allllll that, I’ve just enjoyed getting to spend time with all my family and friends from home, but missing everyone from Rhodes too!

As wonderful and relaxing as this summer has been, I’m excited to be back at Rhodes and see everyone-- especially all my delta sisters!!! I’m looking forward to a good semester and meeting all the freshman and potential baby deltas! This year is going to be so much fun and I can’t wait!

DELTA LOVE,
Kristin

Get to Know an ABROAD Delta!

Meet Kelly Kriegshauser!

G’day mates!
I’m Kelly Kriegshauser, a rising Junior, and you won’t meet me until next semester because I am studying abroad in Sydney, Australia! I absolutely love it over here…way too much fun. Becca Allen, another Junior Delta, is studying in New Zealand and she is coming to visit this week! YOU HAVE TO GO ABROAD.

I am originally from St. Louis, Missouri and I am an English major and an Education minor. I want to be an elementary school teacher or maybe write for a magazine. I am a former field hockey player at Rhodes, so I’m already excited for life at Rhodes without such a huge commitment, but I miss my teammates!

As much fun as I’m having over here, I am still a little bit sad that I’m missing rush and bid day! Get excited! But, I plan on being very involved in DDD when return, so you will meet me then! Meet everyone you can these first few weeks at school, especially the Deltas! I can’t imagine Rhodes without Tri-delt, and the friends I’ve made in it. The tri-delts are the most amazing, fun girls you will meet, I promise! I’m living with 5 other tri-delts in a house when I get back and I can’t wait for it! Also, my tri-delt big and little are two girls I cannot live without! I would have been lost without my Big freshman year..our family is really close I would die without them!

I’m so excited to meet all of you! Have so much fun at Rhodes..I can’t believe I’m already halfway done, so please live it up your freshman year! Rhodes is the best place on earth! I excited for the reunion with all of my DDD sisters, and the new baby deltas!

Delta Love and Cheers,
Kelly Kriegs

European Studies Deltas!

Hello from Oxford!

Delta sisters (pictured L to R) Caroline James, Madeline Patterson, Kristen Jones, and Michaela Lynch are having a blast at Oxford University in England! We are currently studying in England for 6 weeks on the European Studies program through Rhodes. After Oxford, we will split with Caroline and Michaela traveling around Eastern Europe while Kristen and Madeline travel through Western Europe.

Our first stop in Edinburgh, Scotland was a beautiful and since then we've been exploring northern England in places like Durham and York. After arriving here in Oxford we've started classes and finally unpacked. We're excited about our weekend trips to London, Dublin and Barcelona but love the city of Oxford. So far we've seen some Harry Potter film set locations along with Alice and Wonderland inspirations. This picture is from our first High Table dinner where we dress up and are served a 3 course meal in the dining hall by a French chef. We can't wait to meet the baby deltas and see all our delta sisters in January. Missing Rhodes and wish we were there for rush!

Delta Love,

Caroline, Kristen, Madeline and Michaela

Meet Tiffany Cossich!

Hey yall! My name is Tiffany Cossich, and I’m from New Orleans, Louisiana. I’m a rising sophomore and can’t wait to get back to Rhodes very soon! I’m still deciding on my major, but right now its between Sociology and English. I am going to minor in Spanish. I love traveling, and hopefully I will be going abroad in the near future to Spain.

This summer, I spent most of my time working at a law firm, scanning and shredding documents. It was pretty boring, but I do love shredding paper. Besides that, I visited some of my friends from Rhodes in Boston for the 4th of July. My Delta sister, Molly Leonard, and I had a lot of fun visiting with other friends and sightseeing in the city. I also went on a family trip to the beach in Florida, which was very relaxing. I went to a few concerts in New Orleans and hung out with high school friends.

I’ve had a great summer, but I’m looking forward to an even better fall semester. I’m so excited to meet our new baby Deltas! I hope to volunteer more with St. Jude’s this semester. I love Tri Delta’s participation with their philanthropy and can’t wait to get more involved this year! I’ve missed my Delta sisters soooo much! This is going to be a great year! I can’t wait for recruitment and to get a little!

DL,
Tiffany

A Note from the VP of Recruitment!

Hello there soon-to-be-baby-deltas! I know that you're out there somewhere... and we just cannot WAIT to meet you. I just wanted to let you girls know a little about Recruitment 2009 and what to expect.

First of all, make sure that you have registered for Recruitment by going onto the Rhodes website, clicking on "Campus Life," "Greek Life," and then finally "Sorority Rush Registration." Registration is open until September 2nd, but definitely don't wait that long!

On the date Registration closes (9/2), you will all attend Sorority 101 where you will meet your Gamma Chi (a kind of "Recruitment Counselor") who will tell you what to expect, wear, and do during the four days of Rush Events. Your Gamma Chi is a member of one of the four sororities here on campus but has sworn to silence during Recruitment; her house will remain a mystery until Bid Day!

Secondly, keep an open mind! A benefit of going through Recruitment at Rhodes is that we only have 4 PAN houses to choose from... not dozens like some crazy big schools. You will have quality time at each house to meet the current members and get the feel of the place. The best part is... there is NO WRONG CHOICE! Where you pledge doesn't necessarily determine where your best friends will pledge, and many of my TriDelta sisters have best friends in other sororities or not in sororities at all. The most important thing is that you choose the house where you feel that you fit in, where you feel that YOU will be the perfect addition!

A last thing to remember is that we are JUST as nervous as you are! Try to ask us as many questions as we ask you... we want YOU to want US and the only way you can find that out is by getting to know us! The Recruitment events are designed so that you will be able to talk one-on-one with some different members in each house, at some point you might see some singin' and craziness... and you even get some delicious goodies.

A last, LAST thing that I am going to mention is that you should NOT be freaked out by how excited we are because OH, WE. ARE. EXCITED! You will see DDDs rockin' our Recruitment shirts, sneakin' peeks at you in class (not creepily...!), bein' loud around campus (especially in the library where we love to congregate!), and buzzin' around campus to get everything done for the different events.

Seriously, we DDDs LOVE our baby deltas... our new little sisters... the DDD future! We cannot wait to meet you and hope that you like us as much as we LOVE you!Counting down the days...

DDD Family of the Week

Meet my DDD family!

We are a diverse group of girls from all over, and we really enjoy spending time together and doing family activities. Katherine DiGiovanni is a sophomore from Boston, Massachusetts. She is a Biology major who is currently at home for the summer working at a hospital. Michaela Lynch is a junior English major from Bronxville, New York. She is participating in European Studies this coming semester, and will be traveling to England, Greece, Italy, and Turkey! My name is Alison Jones, and I am a senior English major from Murfreesboro, Tennessee. I am spending my summer taking classes to get ahead for next year. Jamie Glancy is from Little Rock, Arkansas. She graduated from Rhodes in May, and has just started medical school in Little Rock! This picture was taken at a family dinner we had before one of our formals. We spend a lot of time together, but family dinners are one of our favorite ways to hang out and catch up after a busy week! Since Jamie graduated and Michaela is abroad for the semester, Katherine and I will be the only ones at Rhodes in the fall, but we are SO excited to welcome another girl into our family! I can’t wait for school to start, and I am looking forward to being the head of our family and enjoying another year filled with fun memories with my Delta sisters!

Delta love,
Alison Jones

Get to Know a Delta

Meet Claire Mantovani!

Hiiii!!! My name is Claire Mantovani, and I’m a rising junior from St. Louis, MO…home of the STL cardinals, the arch, and Nelly!!! Woo woooooooo!!!!!! I’m an English major with a possible minor in business. I either want to go to law school after college or get my masters in English and teach. This is my first year at Rhodes not playing field hockey, and I’m pumped to get more involved in the school and Tri Delta. I’m in love with Rhodes and all of the people, especially the Tri Delta people. My fellow Tri Delt sisters are awesome and have become some of the best friends I could have ever dreamed of. This year I’m moving off campus into a house with my 5 besties, all of whom happen to be Tri Delts and sport the colors of delta blue and delta gold.

This summer I’ve been lucky enough to have what will most likely end up being the most relaxing 3 months of my life. I’ve spent nearly half of my time in Marco Island, FL on the beach trying to get as tan as possible, and the other half back in the Lou hanging out with my 2 yellow labs, that I’m obsessed with – Nikki and Fatso. When in St. Louis, I did a little bit of babysitting, but mostly just kicking it by the pool with the pups. I’ve read a lot of great books and spent a lot of quality time with my fam…especially my parents. ☺

I’m so excited to get back to Memphis and reunite with all of my favorite people and see the now senior girls that were abroad last semester!!!! My time at Rhodes has flown by and it’s hard for me to believe that it’s already half over!! I look forward to meeting all the new freshmen in the fall, especially all of you potential baby deltas!!! I hope you all have a fabulous rest of the summer and are getting so excited for coming to the best place in the world (RHODES!!)!!!!!

Delta lovin,
Claire

Meet Sara Sanders!

Hey guys!! My name is Sara Sanders, and I am from Louisville, Kentucky (If you don't know the correct way to say Louisville now, then you will after only a couple of days at rhodes..). I will be a sophomore and I play field hockey for Rhodes and Wells, Jane. I really have no idea what I want to do in the future, but I think I have narrowed down my majors to either Psychology or History, and I definitely want to minor in Spanish. I love to travel, and I really want to study abroad this coming spring, but I might wait until my junior year, I am hoping to go to Chile though!

This summer I worked for an Investment Firm in Louisville. I was basically an intern, but I got paid, and it was a really great experience, everyone in the office was so fun! Other than that, I went on a family trip to Santa Fe, New Mexico for a few days then we took a train to Los Angeles, California and then we flew to San Francisco from there. San Francisco was an AMAZING city and I really want to live there maybe some time after college. I also went to DC and stayed with my Delta sister, Becca Diamond for the fourth of July and our friend Libby and we saw other random Rhodes people there. It was so good to see people from Rhodes, it has been a long 3 months without everyone! Oh, and the picture of me is from this past weekend, I went to the Rascal Flatts concert in Cincinnati!

I am so excited for this year, though, it is going to be soo much fun, and I cannot wait to meet all of the new baby deltasss!!! Get excited for rush and your freshman year of college, it is so much fun!

DELTA LOVEEE,
Sara

Meet Lucy Bell!

Hey Guys! My name is Lucy Bell, and I’m from the great state of North Carolina! I’ll be a sophomore this fall and plan to study Psychology with a possible minor in Spanish. I play field hockey for the lynx cats (rawr) with my best friends here, most of whom are fellow deltas and although we will miss some of rush during the field hockey season, I’m very excited to meet the baby D’s and I hope you all have a great rush experience!

This summer I’ve been working at the Carolina Brewery and have been "playing secretary" at a law office, both of which are a THRILL. However, thankfully I’ve been able to travel a lot too- My boyfriend and I went to Hawaii at the end of May and I spent about a month in June/July in Antigua, Guatemala studying Spanish, exploring Mayan ruins and climbing volcanos! Although I went by myself, it was a great experience and I can’t wait to study abroad (perhaps in Buenos Aires to follow many of my sister’s footprints!).

This year I hope to make more trips to St. Jude’s Target House for volunteering and go back tutoring my middle schoolers at Cypress Middle School. I’ll be living with my girlllllllll, (another delta) Lizzie Steen in Stewart so come by and visit us!!

DL, Lucy
ps. I can’t wait to meet my little!!!!!

Meet Charlie Wagner!
Hey guys! My name is Charlie Wagner. I am a rising junior and just wanted to say hello before recruitment and tell you how amazing Tri Delta is! I know all you freshmen are pretty nervous and excited right now about school and everything that goes with that. Sorority life seems like just another organization or thing to do at the moment, but let me tell you it is such a great thing to get involved in!

Tri Delta has given me the opportunity to volunteer around Memphis, help the children at St. Jude, and have amazing sisters for life. If you are worried about time commitments or balancing school with activities this fall, do not worry any longer! It can be done, especially at Rhodes. We alllll do a lot outside of Tri Delt! I play field hockey and tutor at a local middle school, and I STILL get to do sisterhood and philanthropy events with Tri Delt! You cannot go wrong with any sorority at Rhodes, but we LOVEE our baby deltas!! So, get excited for recruitment, and I cannot wait to meet all of you!

Delta LOVE,
Charlie

P.S. This is me in Vinci, Italy this summer where I found three Deltas in a brick wall. As you can see, Tri Delta is famous all over the world!

Meet Caroline Mulloy!

Hola! My name is Caroline Mulloy, and I am from Louisville, Kentucky. I am a rising junior and a Political Science major with a possible Spanish minor. Basically if you asked me what I wanted to be when I was older, I would tell you that I wanted to be the President! This summer I worked as a swim coach and went on a white-water rafting trip with the good old family.

This fall I am studying abroad in Barcelona, Spain. My attempt at packing is more difficult than I planned though. I cannot wait to spend a semester abroad, but I will be so excited to come back in the spring and move into my house with 5 other Delta sisters. I hope ya’ll have had a great summer, and get excited for Recruitment-it’s so much fun!

Delta Love,
Caroline

Meet Kelly Parry!

Hey everyone! My name is Kelly Parry, and I am a rising sophomore from Atlanta, Georgia. I am thinking about a major in psychology but I haven't really decided yet. This summer I have been doing many things including: interning for a theatre company in Atlanta (lots of alphabetizing), managing the Snak Shak at my neighborhood pool (much harder than it sounds.. trying to control 12 fourteen year olds.. I got caught up on all my freshman-in-high-school drama!), dressing up like a cow to get free chicken for Chick-fil-a's Cow Appreciation Day (AS PICTURED), babysitting, seeing Harry Potter 6 at midnight, going to the lake, hitting up the beach, chillin with my parents and old high school friends... but mostly COUNTING DOWN THE DAYS UNTIL I GO BACK TO RHODES!

I had the most interesting and amazing freshman year at Rhodes, and I wish the same for all incoming freshman! You will never have this time back... enjoy it and LOVE IT! This fall I will be working in the Bonner office, organizing volunteer opportunities with the rest of the Kinney team, going to Springdale with my DELTA SISTERS (so much fun! ALL baby deltas should do this... stay tuned for more info!), taking super fun classes, and going to lots of football games! I cannot wait to meet all the new freshman!! TRI DELT WOO!!

Delta LOVE,
Kelly

Meet Nina Guo!

Helllllo everyone! My name is Nina, and I’m a senior tri-delta from Houston, TX. I’m majoring in Biology with a minor in French. This summer, I studied for and took the MCAT, applied to medical schools, and then packed my bags for Paris, France! (In the picture, I’m standing at the gates of Versailles) I spent six weeks there taking classes at the Sorbonne, pretending to be Parisian, and eating at least 3 pĆ¢tisseries per day. It’s tough to find time as a bio major to study abroad, so I’m SO happy I got to do it this summer in the beautiful city of lights!

Other than hanging out down in F-J (which is Frazier-Jelke, the underground science building, for you non-nerds), I also spend time as the Kinney community service coordinator for the hospitals and healthcare area. I love meeting new people and helping them get plugged into volunteer opportunities around Memphis, like the TARGET HOUSE and ST. JUDE, which just happen to be DDD’s national philanthropy. I love going to the Target House with my tri-delta sisters and hanging with the young patients. We do crafts and decorate cookies and, sometimes, airplane contests (despite what Meredith Bond said a few posts below, she did NOT win that contest…)!

I can’t wait to be reunited with all my sistas and meet the new kids, too! ƀ bientĆ“t!

Dl,
Nina

Meet Christy Siegel!

Hey everyone! I'm Christy Siegel, a rising sophomore, and you can find me in St. Louieeeeee. I plan on being a double Econ/Business major but we will see how that works out. As well as being a member of Tri Delta and the Membership Development Assistant, I also play golf at Rhodes. I enjoy the long amounts of time that I get to spend with Coach Clary on and off the course! This summer I have been playing a TON of golf and working my butt off at my new job. I was lucky enough to get a job being a server at this new restaurant that just opened up by my house. As for traveling this summer, I just got back from San Francisco which was amazing! However, it was surprisingly cold... So that would be a negative on getting any type of color but hopefully I can fix that before I get back to school! I am counting down the days until I will be returning to Memphis and see all my Delta sisters! I hope everyone has been enjoying their summer and I can't wait to meet all the new freshman!

DL,
Christy

Get to Know the Philanthropy Chair!

Meet Mallory Westmoreland!

Hey! I’m Mallory Westmoreland, a rising senior from Pensacola Florida. I’m a political science major with an art minor. Also, I’m the Philanthropy Chairman for Tri Delta! This summer I’ve been living in Memphis working on campus at the library as the HelpDesk RSA, as well as babysitting three kids of a Rhodes Tri Delta Alum. Additionally, I am a CASA Volunteer-intern, which I trained for in the spring and now continue, so I am in and out of court hearings representing children in Memphis. Other than working I’m visiting San Francisco with my family as well as making trips back to Florida because I miss the beach!

As Philanthropy Chairman, I get to plan amazing events where we get to work closely with St. Jude since we are right here in Memphis. This past spring we had an all chapter tour of the facilities at St. Jude (including the floor that Tri Delta has donated!) so we could see firsthand what our fundraising has been attributed to. Also, we have had events with Target House (the St. Jude outpatient home facilities) where we have arts and crafts time and game nights with the kids and their families. Tri Deltas at Rhodes also participate in other philanthropies that affect the local community. We have weekly afterschool art with one of the local elementary schools for 4th and 5th graders where Tri Delts act as mentors as well as get to spend time with her sisters.

I just recently attended the St. Jude Collegiate Seminar where I interacted with representatives from Tri Delta Chapters all over the nation as well as come into contact with patients from St. Jude. I have learned so much from that experience and can’t wait to get started with this semester! Tri Delta has pledged 10 in 10 (to donate $10 million in ten years, beginning in 2006) but we have already reached 8 million so the updated goal is 10 BY 10 ($10 million by 2010)! I can’t wait to get the baby deltas on board to help out our chapter!!

DDD Family of the Week

This is a new series that highlights DDD families each week! Here is one great family!

Hey Yall! My name is Anne Buckthal (on the Left in the picture!), and I am a rising junior. My Tri Delta family consists of (pictured left to right) Emily Schildt ‘09, Ashley Zimmerman’ 09, and Amanda Harris ’12. We are a very close family and do a family dinner or dessert at least once a month. For Ashley’s birthday this year (before Amanda was a DDD), Ashley, Emily and I went to High School Musical on Ice and were the oldest ones there minus the mothers. I was so excited to get Amanda for my little, she fits in great and we can’t wait to get our new family member!! Ashley and Emily love us so much that they decided to stay in Memphis next year so they could still hang out with us haha!

Get to Know the Academic Development Chair!

Meet Katie Barham!

Hey Yall! I’m Katie Barham, a rising junior from Senatobia, Mississippi. This summer I’m working for my parents, taking some art classes, and visiting my sister in Nashville. My goal for the summer was to become a world-renowned seamstress, but so far the only thing I’ve been able to do is sew my fingers together. I’m enjoying the summer, but can’t wait to get back to Rhodes in a few weeks and start another great year. I’m a Spanish major and Religious Studies minor, and my future ambitions tend to change every day. I’ve considered everything from law school to culinary school, so I’m pretty much all over the board (story of my life). During the school year at Rhodes, I like to stay involved. In addition to Tri Delta, where I’m currently the Academic Development Chair, and I’m also a member of the Social Regulations Council for Rhodes. Last semester I was an intern at an immigration law firm in Memphis, and this semester I’m looking into an internship at the Med. I’m so excited for junior year, and I can’t wait to meet all the new freshmen!

Meet Kelly McClenathan!

Hi! My name is Kelly McClenathan, and I am a rising SENIOR Tri Delta from St. Petersburg, Florida. I am a Psychology major and a Spanish minor. I would really like to go to graduate school for Speech Pathology and become a Speech Therapist for Spanish kids but I actually don't really want to graduate college. I love Rhodes so much. These 3 years have flown by SO FAST and I can't believe I am already a senior!! I don't think I have ever been more excited to start school August 26th though.

This past semsester, I was abroad studying in Buenos Aires, Argentina and have missed my sisters so much! At the end of January, my best friend and Delta sister, Maura Mohler (on my back in the picture!!), and I boarded a plane with 4 of the biggest suitcases you have ever seen to Buenos Aires. That trip had to be the best six months of my life. There wasn't much school involved (I had class on Mondays and Tuesdays starting after 3:00 pm) but learning about the country of Argentina, their people, and their culture was unreal. You will hear a million times throughout college to study abroad and I'm not kidding you... do it.

One of my favorite parts of my trip (and my life) was a 13 hour hike in Patagonia. We hiked 5 hours to a glacier, strapped on our crampons so we could trek across the glacier, then climbed up a wall of ice with ice picks, and then hiked 5 hours back. We also went to Carnaval which is Mardi Gras but a hundred times bigger. It was an amazing experience and I'm pretty sure I want to live in Buenos Aires when I'm older.

I returned to Memphis just in time for my favorite holiday (July 4th) and have been here with some of my Delta sisters this summer. It is so great to see them but I can't wait to see everyone else!! This summer, I have been nannying, working for a blind man, and finally experiencing Memphis as a 21-year-old! I can't wait to meet all the new freshman!

Delta Love!!! Kelly McClenathan

Meet Katherine Delavan!

Hola a todo el mundo! My name is Katherine Delavan, and I am a rising senior from San Antonio, Texas, and I’m going to disappoint you with my lack of any Texan accent. I recently returned from studying abroad in Granada, EspaƱa where I passed an indescribable and life-changing 6 months living and traveling throughout Spain and surrounding countries. Despite an amazing time abroad, I am so excited to see all of my friends at Rhodes (8 months is too long without everyone) and for the epic reunion that’s about to go down. I am an Economics & International Studies major with a minor in Spanish, and have played volleyball for Rhodes for 3 years. This year I have decided that it’s high time to figure out a career path and will hopefully be getting an internship and/or job, so I’ve decided to leave the spandex-flaunting to my teammates (4 of whom are fellow Deltas!).

I love traveling, Spanish, nerdy books and cooking and baking. Ideally, I would love to write travel guides and work for Lonely Planet, however I’m guessing I’ll be doing something a little more down to earth until I either win the lottery or find the secret to the stock market and can fund my future dream travels. Senior year is going to be amazing and I can’t wait to meet all of the new members as well as reunite with all of my sisters in Memphis!!

DL,
Katherine

Get to Know a Delta

Meet Anne Tufton!

Hey Yall! My Name is Anne Tufton. I’m a SENIOR from the greatest city in the world New Orleans, LA. I am a Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Major with a Minor in Religious Studies. They are both great departments so I would check them out!

My summer hasn’t been filled with exotic trips unless you count the many trips I’ve taken to the Loyola Library this summer (woohoo!). I am currently studying for the MCAT which I take at the end of August. Wish me Luck!

Besides hitting the books, I’ve been working at a clothing store in NOLA which may not be the best idea since I LOVE CLOTHES! I think my whole paycheck goes back into the store.
I can’t wait to see all my Deltas that were abroad last semester and to actually do something other than learn about science!

Delta in Research!

DELTA BEING HONORED

This summer, Hunter Utkov- a rising senior Tri Delta- was invited to present her chemistry research at the International congresses for Quantum Chemistry which was held in Helsinki Finland this summer. Her research is based upon the modification of stain drugs in order to improve their binding energy with the residues in the active site. By working with HMG-CoA and current statin drugs, she modified the molecule by adding functional groups and then calculating their dipoles and binding efficacy with Tyr479, a residue found in the active site. So basically, the whole idea of this research is to improve the efficiency that the molecule binds with its active site- meaning the synthesis of cholesterol is inhibited better.

Hunter also presented her research in Utah this past semester. Her research paper is soon going to be published in a science journal!

***DELTA SNAPS TO HUNTER AND HER AMAZING ACCOMPLISHMENT!!!***

Get to Know the Social Chair!

Meet Lauren McDermott!

Hey! My name is Lauren McDermott, and I am a rising junior at Rhodes. I'm from Colorado Springs, CO and just recently returned from traveling abroad in Europe. The entire trip was unforgettable and one of the best experiences of my life! I first studied in Bilbao, Spain (with two other FABULOUS sisters Carsen Bahn and Anna Reilly) and lived with a host family for a month. My family was awesome, and I had a blast living up the spanish life with the other kids from Rhodes. After studying in Spain, Carsen and I (along with a few others) Euro-tripped, ultimate American tourist style, to Rome, Florence, Munich, and Amsterdam. We traveled by train and stayed in some VERY memorable hostels in each city which made the trip so much fun. After traveling with my fellow tourista Carsen, I met up with my sister and we traveled to Nice and St. Tropez in France and then ended the big trip in London. The past 6 weeks of traveling Europe was unbelievable and I couldn't have asked for anything more!

The rest of the the summer I am going to be at my family's cabin in Canada and then returning back to Memphis and moving into a house with 4 other Delta sisters which I CANNOT wait for. I am also the Social Chair for Tri Delta so I will be busy planning all the fun social events this fall!!I'm looking forward to meeting all the freshman and potential new Deltas this fall and hope you all are having a great summer!

Delta love & more,
Lauren

Deltas do Memphis...

See what more Deltas are up to in Memphis this summer!

There are Tri Deltas taking over campus! You will find Meredith Bond in the Alumni Office, Mathilde Semmes in Career Services, Kelly Kreigshauser with Campus Safety, and that’s just to name a few! Both Meredith and Mathilde have served on panels for the summer orientations, and are always around campus helping set up events. Kelly was working at Campus Safety through mid-July when she left for a semester in Australia!

Many of our Deltas are also spending their summer being care takers of local community member’s children and family. Kelly McClenathan spends her time taking care of an elderly blind man that needs daily assistance, in addition to nannying his grandchildren. Mallory Westmoreland and Meredith Bond spend their weeks with babies and children, taking care of them and giving them special attention. Almost ALL of the other Deltas spend one or two nights a week watching children of the Rhodes community! Other jobs of summer Deltas include Elizabeth Summit at Muddy’s Bake Shop, which is the BEST bakery in Memphis that was opened by a Tri Delta alumna last February!

Deltas are everywhere this summer!

Get to Know the New Member Educator!

Meet Meredith Bond!

Hey guys!! My name is Meredith Bond, and I am a rising senior Tri-Delt from Charleston, WV. I currently hold the position of New Member Educator and I can’t wait to meet all of you. This summer, I have worked for the Rhodes college alumni office, so if anyone has gone to a Summer Send Off, I have probably talked to you! During the school year I am part of the Rhodes Student Associate Program for the Athletic Department, which is perfect for me because I love sports, and tend to try to relive my high school glory days through intramurals!

I am a history major and education minor, and after graduation I want to become a High School History teacher and eventually a principal. I love kids, and throughout my time at Rhodes, I have worked for Our Children Our Future and Adopt-A-Friend. Through Tri-Delta I have been able to work with kids at St. Jude’s during the Remembrance Day program as well as at Target House, where I get to brag that I won a paper airplane competition.

I am a very outgoing person that loves Rhodes, loves Tri-Delta, and has an inappropriate love for both hot sauce and West Virginia University football! The lessons that I have learned from Tri-Delta and my fellow sisters are things that I can’t put into words, and I am so excited for others to see that!

West Virginian and Delta Love,
Meredith

Meet Leann Farha!

Hola Chicas! My name is Leann Farha, and I am a rising sophmore from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma! As of now, I am majoring in Psychology and minoring in business, however knowing me, my major and minor will probably change about five times!

Since I am working two jobs, my summer has been so busy… but still fun! My first job is at a local bread bakery called Big Sky Bread where I literally cut bread and bag granola all day! My second job is McAlisters Deli! Anyways, other than working, I have gone to a few music festivals and been hanging with my twin brother! My big is currently in town and we are even talking about going sky diving this summer!

I can’t wait to get back to Rhodes and reunite with all my friends and get a pledge class of awesome new Tri dDltas! Hope everyone is having a lovely summer ☺

Leann
