Get to Know the Music Chairman!

Buongiorno from Roma!
(Myself and Lauren in front of the Coliseum!!)

My name is Carsen Bahn and I am a rising junior at Rhodes and the Music Chair of Tri Delta. I am currently traveling Europe with Lauren McDermott, another Tri Delt and some friends from school. We just completed a Spanish Maymester in Bilbao, Spain. It was an amazing month with new foods (paella!), awkward, communication difficulties with our host families, futbol, and Basque culture.

After Rome, Lauren and I are traveling to Florence, Munich, and Amsterdam. We are representing the United States well by taking lots of pictures and getting lost a lot. If you have any questions on being the ultimate tourists, Lauren and I can tell you everything you know.

After Europe, I return to my hometown, Cape Girardeau, Missouri. I am majoring in biology and pre-dentistry so I am shadowing a few dentists in different specialties for the summer.
On July 12, I am flying to Wyoming where I am backpacking for a month in the Absaroka Valley. I am really counting on seeing a bear. My time in Wyoming is also part of some of the environmental research I am doing with Dr. Cappellato in the fall.

When I get back in mid-August it will be time to move to Memphis! I am living with four other Tri Delts (shout out to Emily, Lauren, Ellie and Lucy) in an amazing house next to the Brooks Museum. I am so excited to decorate my room and cook in my own house. I am loving Summer 09 but I can’t wait to return to Rhodes to start recruitment and meet all the new, amazing Freshman girls! And I know all the rising sophomores can’t wait to start recruitment music workshops. ;)

Delta Love and Mine,
Carsen

Get to Know the President!

Meet Meredith Martin!

Hey everyone! My name is Meredith Martin, and I presently serving as the President of Tri-Delta. Besides running meetings with my Vice President of Administration Alison White, I serve on all Delta committees. It is also my job to know all the policies and procedures of Tri-Delta. I am currently living in Memphis for the summer, though I am from Austin, Texas. My summer schedule includes taking classes for credit and working at The Exceptional Foundation of West Tennessee which facilitates special needs adults in the community. My favorite thing to do at Rhodes is participate in community service. My favorite place on the Rhodes campus is the Rat!!! Who doesn't love an all you can eat buffet? My most rewarding experience at Rhodes so far was going abroad on a program called European Studies for a semester. While abroad, I studied at Oxford University and traveled around learning about art. My major is Art History so it was perfect for me! One of my best times was meeting up with some of my Delta sisters in Florence. The picture above is of me (right) and my Delta sister Mary-Beth in Bath, England. We had an awesome time! I am so excited to be starting my senior year at Rhodes, and I cannot wait to see new faces on campus!

Meredith Martin

Meet Madeline Patterson!

Hi! I'm Madeline from Carmel, Indiana, and I'm a rising sophomore. I just got home from Belgium where I was studying international business for three weeks with a Rhodes Maymester program. I leave shortly for Sewanee where I will take a pre-program class on religion, history and art history before going abroad in August with Rhodes! I'm participating in the European Studies trip for the fall semester and will be visiting Scotland, England, France, Belgium, Germany and Italy. I think I will major in international studies and know I want to concentrate in art history. The plan is to go to law school and become an international art attorney. I can't wait to come back to Rhodes to visit when the trip is over in October and meet all the new deltas! Enjoy summer break everyone!

Get to Know the VP Administration!

Meet Alison White!

Hi! My name is Alison White, and I am a rising senior DDD and also the VP Adminstration. I am responsible for organizing the calendar for Tri Delta events and also sending daily emails with reminders and announcements to the chapter. I spent the first three weeks of summer in Cairo with a group of Rhodes business students. It was an amazing trip. Aside from seeing the pyramid, sphinx, riding a camel, etc, we also spent time learning about Egyptian culture and business. It was a great trip, but it is great to be home in Louisville, Kentucky for the remainder of the summer. I had an academic internship this past semester, so I decided to take it easy this summer. I have been babysitting two really fun kids and spending time with my family and high school friends. Can’t wait to see everyone in August!

Alison

Deltas at St. Jude!

DDD LOVES ST. JUDE!

This past April, our chapter was lucky enough to be able to go on a tour of St. Jude, including the Tri Delta Patient Care Floor in the new Chile's Care center. Pictured above are many of the DDD Sisters about to enter the Tri Delta Patient Care Floor. As apart of Tri Delta's pledge to St. Jude, every chapter is responsible for raising a share of the pledge of $10 million in 10 years. Currently, Tri Delta nationally has raised around $6 million of the $10 million in less than 5 years! Every chapter is continuing to work hard to fulfill our pledge to such an amazing philanthropy!

Junior DDD sisters Anne Schaumberg, Claire Mantovani, and Caroline Mulloy take a seat on the stars on the Tri Delta Patient Care Floor in the Chile's Care Center!

Senior sisters Mathilde Semmes and Alison Jones go swimming with the DDD Dolphins on the Tri Delta Patient Care Floor in the Chile's Care center! Tri Delta symbols, like the dolphin, cover the Tri Delta Patient Care Floor in our colors, blue and yellow!

This is the entrance to the Tri Delta Patient Care Floor! What an awesome place!

Meet Claire Warren!

Hey y'all! My name is Claire Warren, and I am a rising sophomore at Rhodes. Along with being a Tri-Delt, I also play volleyball. I absolutely love it! I am home right now in San Antonio, Texas. As of right now, I am thinking about majoring in Business or Economics. Ideally, I would like to do something in Public Relations or Advertising, but, then again, I could very easily change my mind. This summer I am lifeguarding and trying to work as much as possible to make some money for the fall. As much as I enjoy the 105 degree weather right now, I cannot wait to get back to Memphis and see everyone! I look forward to meeting all the new freshies!!

Delta Love,
Claire

My Name is Carol Wicker, I'm a rising junior and play soccer at Rhodes. This summer I'm in the best city in the world... St. Louiee!! I'm babysitting, taking an English course for transfer credit, and playing soccer Tuesday and Thursday nights. Last semester I was abroad in Florence, Italy with my Tri-Delta sister, Allie Wombwell. We had a blast traveling around, but it was good to get back and see everyone again. I was also able to visit with other sisters, Megan McDonald, Mathilde Semmes, Meredith Martin, and Mary Beth Ricke when they came through Florence during their semesters abroad. I can't wait for Junior year, especially since now I have a new house off campus with five other junior Deltas!

Deltas in Belgium

Six Deltas Participating in the Business Dept May-mester in Belgium!

Hi, my name is Elizabeth Summit and I am one of the Deltas in Belgium! There are six of us in Belgium right now-- Me, Lucy Luken, Virginia Rhomberg, Madeline Patterson, Becca Allen, and Anne Buckthal. In the picture it is Lucy, myself, and Anne. We are having a wonderful time touring Belgium and France. We are studying international business here, so we have been able to visit so many great import and export factories. In Champagne, France, we visited the Mumm and Nicolas Feuilatte champagne houses. We travelled through Reims and Paris. We have been to Amsterdam as well for a day trip where many people went to tour Anne Frank's house. In Belgium, we have been to many of the smaller cities and Brussels. In Brussels, we studied the European Union and met with some of the business heads. We have been to many breweries including AB InBev and De Koninck. We also went to printing/publishing houses, a chocolat factory, the diamond district and exchange, and a tapestry factory. The waffles and french fries here are amazing!! The architecture is gorgeous as well. We have loved travelling around and learning about the business industry in Europe. It has been an amazing trip!

Get to Know a Delta

Delta Love from Texas:

Hey y’all! My name is Kristin Wilkinson, and I’m from Houston, Texas. I am the Activities Chairman for the fall. My summer was delayed with my sister’s graduation from Rhodes, who is also a Tri Delt, and a myriad of Honor Council trials. However, this summer, I am nannying for a family of five. The children are six and under and speak four languages – that’s right, four! Just the other day, the four-year-old asked me to speak Spanish with him! As far as a major goes, I’m leaning towards either Business or Pre-law with a minor in Spanish, but only time will tell. Although I love being home, I look forward to getting back up to Memphis in the fall; and I, of course, can’t wait to meet all the new freshmen!

Delta Love,
Kristin

Meet Amanda Harris!

Hey! I'm Amanda from Wilton, Connecticut. I'll be a Sophmore in the fall, and as of right now I have no idea what I want to major in. I am the assistant house manager, so I help keep the DDD house nice and pretty! I'm living in New York for the summer, interning at a small nonprofit that oversees architectural preservation in the city. NYC is so much fun, but I'm excited to get back to Memphis and my DDD sisters this fall!!

Delta Love, Amanda

Meet Katherine DiGiovanni!

My name is Katherine DiGiovanni, and I am from Boston, Mass. I have an older sister named Heather who is pregnant with a little boy named Carter (she is due the first week of July). Ever since I was little girl I was determined to become an active sorority member...preferably in Tri-Delta. To cut to the chase, my dream came true. As a rising sophomore, I love my sorority and work hard as a science (Biology) major. I am not quite sure what I want to make out of it...whether I want to go on to medical school or if I would prefer going into nursing. Time is essential. This summer I will be working a job at a hospital. There are a couple ones open, but I am thinking I will be a nursing aid!! I miss school immensely and can't wait to see everyone in the fall. SO. EXITED.

Delta Love,
Katherine

Delta-tastic in Greece

Meet Emily Williams!

Hi! I am Emily Williams, and I'm a junior PoliSci major from Union City, TN, a super small town about two hours north of Memphis. I'll be in Memphis most of this summer because I absolutely love it! I'm living in a house close to campus with four of my Delta sisters, and I am so excited. Right now I am travelling in Greece. I am currently in Athens, and I visited Sparta yesterday, where of course we reenacted scenes from 300. The Greek people are apparently obsessed with Dolphins so I've been able to collect lots of cute Delta Dolphins to decorate my house with. I am the sponsor chair, and am so excited to pair up our new baby deltas with AWESOME bigs after bid day and have tons of new big and little activities that I am planning!

Delta Love,
Emily

A Delta in Hawaii

Aloha!

My name is Kelly Schricker and I am a rising Senior. This summer has been indescribably amazing thus far. Immediately after exams, I left the mainland for Hawaii. Because my older brother graduated from Hawaii Pacific University with his second degree, there was a great need for celebration in our family! After a few days in Waikiki, our parents joined us on the island. Mike made us all very proud as he walked across the stage in a Steelers jersey, cap and gown, and an assortment of Hawaiian leis.

A few days later our family left for the beautiful island of Kauai with my brother's girlfriend and best friend who came along for the adventure. Here, we hiked the cliffs of the North Shore, snorkeled the reefs of Tunnel's beach, surfed the waves of Hana lei beach, and waded in the warm water of Queen's Bath. We snacked on fresh coconuts, pineapple, and shave ice. Jumping off rocks into some of the clearest water on earth 20ft below was by far my favorite thrill. Needless to say, we enjoyed every aspect of paradise to the fullest. Although this marked the end of my parent's vacation, I was lucky enough to stay for another week.

Back in Waikiki, I tried coconut beer as well as Japanese beer, ate spectacular sushi, and hung out with the friendliest and most relaxed group of people. On my last night of the trip, Mike talked me into eating Japanese delicacies such as cow tongue, liver, intestine, and many others (surprisingly, I highly recommend them all). Before leaving paradise, I went out surfing with friends and said my goodbyes.

It wasn't until I was all the way back in Memphis that I realized I had brought back a unique souvenir, a surfing induced concussion that would required a trip to the ER. I have been back in Memphis for only a few days but I have already gone to Beale St. and had my fair share of amazing Memphis BBQ. The rest of my summer will be spent babysitting two adorable children and planning rapidly approaching senior events and parties.

Aloha y'all!

Get to Know the VP of Recruitment!

Meet Mathilde Semmes!

Hi! I'm Mathilde Semmes, pronounced Ma-TEEL, and I am Tri Delta's head of Recruitment, the former Music Chair Assistant, and a History Major. WELL, as Recruitment Chair I am getting anxious for summer to end so that school can begin, and we can finally meet the new freshmen! Oh wait, I still have two and a half months to go… hopefully time will FLY. Recruitment is definitely one of the most exciting parts of the school year, and I’m just happy that we’ll have a little bit of time to settle into school before the chaos begins. The FIRST DATE of Recruitment Events is Friday, September 4th… I’m praying for blue skies and comfortable temperatures! I have a very good feeling about Recruitment 2009, and I can’t WAIT to meet all of the new, potential members.

This summer, I will mainly be obsessing over making Recruitment AMAZING here in the Career Services Office in the bottom of Burrow. We don’t have a whole lot to do yet, so if anyone comes to visit Rhodes PLEASE come by and meet me! I would LOVE IT! Other than that, I have a pretty low-key summer. Hanging in Memphis, working at Rhodes, babysitting, thinking about Recruitment, studying for the LSAT, hiding from the heat… waiting for the end of August! Can’t wait, girls!
Delta Love,
Mathilde

Meet Helen Rogers!
My name is Helen Rogers and I am from Simsbury, Connecticut. I will be starting my Sophomore year at Rhodes this coming fall, and I can't wait to get back to Memphis because it's been a little bit chilly up here recently. This summer I am working at Nell, a boutique in Martha's Vineyard. I'm also hoping to learn how to windsurf but I'm not very coordinated so it will be a little challenging! Have a great Summer!

Delta love, Helen

About the Sisters...

As members of the Delta Psi chapter of Delta Delta Delta, we are active on campus, in the community, and with our philanthropies. Our members are active in organizations across campus. We have members that serve on the Honor Council and on class councils, as well as service scholars who spend more than ten hours a week volunteering. Several members serve as Kinney Coordinators who organize service sites for Rhodes. Many of the sisters are involved in Rhodes Ambassadors and Rhodes College Diplomats, which is the group of students that provides tours on campus. Our members are also involved in music and the arts, as well as many star athletes on the field hockey, tennis, volleyball, softball, and soccer teams. The sisters are also involved in highly respected internships across the nation, like the Smithsonian in D.C., and in Memphis at locations like Merrill Lynch and Youth Villages. Academically, we have above a 3.0 house GPA average. Many sisters have received honors and awards for writings and published works while others have made the Dean's List for several semesters with a GPA above a 3.6. Our members also are involved in a many clubs and honor societies across academic disciplines. This is just a brief highlight about the wide variety of talent, skill, and intelligence that our sorority has amongst its members.

Our national philanthropy is St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, located in Memphis, and as the only Tri Delta chapter in Memphis, we are privileged to have the opportunity to work directly with the hospital and the out-patient facilities, like the Target House and the Ronald McDonald House. Yearly we raise thousands of dollars for St. Jude through our annual fundraiser, Delta Days. As a commitment to St. Jude, Tri Delta Nationals has pledged to raise $10 million in ten years, with each chapter contributing to the cause. This commitment to St. Jude has provided an entire floor in the new Chile's Care Center where the patients have attached rooms with a bed for the parents, instead of the parents spending endless, sleepless nights in a chair next to their child's bed. Also provided in the rooms is a Wii for the chidren to play with for entertainment. The Tri Delta floor is decorated in yellow and blue, our national colors, along with symbols of the sorority. In a recent visit to the hospital, our chapter was able to see this incredible floor and how all of our hardwork is influencing the patients of St. Jude.

We also volunteer locally at Springdale Elementary and Parkview Retirement Home. At Springdale, we participate in arts and crafts with the fourth and fifth graders, and at Parkview, we spend Friday afternoons serving drinks and snacks, and getting to know the senior citizens. All of our philanthropic activities add to the culture of our chapter and allow us to give back to the community.
