DDD Family of the Week

Meet my DDD family!

We are a diverse group of girls from all over, and we really enjoy spending time together and doing family activities. Katherine DiGiovanni is a sophomore from Boston, Massachusetts. She is a Biology major who is currently at home for the summer working at a hospital. Michaela Lynch is a junior English major from Bronxville, New York. She is participating in European Studies this coming semester, and will be traveling to England, Greece, Italy, and Turkey! My name is Alison Jones, and I am a senior English major from Murfreesboro, Tennessee. I am spending my summer taking classes to get ahead for next year. Jamie Glancy is from Little Rock, Arkansas. She graduated from Rhodes in May, and has just started medical school in Little Rock! This picture was taken at a family dinner we had before one of our formals. We spend a lot of time together, but family dinners are one of our favorite ways to hang out and catch up after a busy week! Since Jamie graduated and Michaela is abroad for the semester, Katherine and I will be the only ones at Rhodes in the fall, but we are SO excited to welcome another girl into our family! I can’t wait for school to start, and I am looking forward to being the head of our family and enjoying another year filled with fun memories with my Delta sisters!

Delta love,
Alison Jones

Get to Know a Delta

Meet Claire Mantovani!

Hiiii!!! My name is Claire Mantovani, and I’m a rising junior from St. Louis, MO…home of the STL cardinals, the arch, and Nelly!!! Woo woooooooo!!!!!! I’m an English major with a possible minor in business. I either want to go to law school after college or get my masters in English and teach. This is my first year at Rhodes not playing field hockey, and I’m pumped to get more involved in the school and Tri Delta. I’m in love with Rhodes and all of the people, especially the Tri Delta people. My fellow Tri Delt sisters are awesome and have become some of the best friends I could have ever dreamed of. This year I’m moving off campus into a house with my 5 besties, all of whom happen to be Tri Delts and sport the colors of delta blue and delta gold.

This summer I’ve been lucky enough to have what will most likely end up being the most relaxing 3 months of my life. I’ve spent nearly half of my time in Marco Island, FL on the beach trying to get as tan as possible, and the other half back in the Lou hanging out with my 2 yellow labs, that I’m obsessed with – Nikki and Fatso. When in St. Louis, I did a little bit of babysitting, but mostly just kicking it by the pool with the pups. I’ve read a lot of great books and spent a lot of quality time with my fam…especially my parents. ☺

I’m so excited to get back to Memphis and reunite with all of my favorite people and see the now senior girls that were abroad last semester!!!! My time at Rhodes has flown by and it’s hard for me to believe that it’s already half over!! I look forward to meeting all the new freshmen in the fall, especially all of you potential baby deltas!!! I hope you all have a fabulous rest of the summer and are getting so excited for coming to the best place in the world (RHODES!!)!!!!!

Delta lovin,
Claire

Meet Sara Sanders!

Hey guys!! My name is Sara Sanders, and I am from Louisville, Kentucky (If you don't know the correct way to say Louisville now, then you will after only a couple of days at rhodes..). I will be a sophomore and I play field hockey for Rhodes and Wells, Jane. I really have no idea what I want to do in the future, but I think I have narrowed down my majors to either Psychology or History, and I definitely want to minor in Spanish. I love to travel, and I really want to study abroad this coming spring, but I might wait until my junior year, I am hoping to go to Chile though!

This summer I worked for an Investment Firm in Louisville. I was basically an intern, but I got paid, and it was a really great experience, everyone in the office was so fun! Other than that, I went on a family trip to Santa Fe, New Mexico for a few days then we took a train to Los Angeles, California and then we flew to San Francisco from there. San Francisco was an AMAZING city and I really want to live there maybe some time after college. I also went to DC and stayed with my Delta sister, Becca Diamond for the fourth of July and our friend Libby and we saw other random Rhodes people there. It was so good to see people from Rhodes, it has been a long 3 months without everyone! Oh, and the picture of me is from this past weekend, I went to the Rascal Flatts concert in Cincinnati!

I am so excited for this year, though, it is going to be soo much fun, and I cannot wait to meet all of the new baby deltasss!!! Get excited for rush and your freshman year of college, it is so much fun!

DELTA LOVEEE,
Sara

Get to Know a Delta

Meet Lucy Bell!

Hey Guys! My name is Lucy Bell, and I’m from the great state of North Carolina! I’ll be a sophomore this fall and plan to study Psychology with a possible minor in Spanish. I play field hockey for the lynx cats (rawr) with my best friends here, most of whom are fellow deltas and although we will miss some of rush during the field hockey season, I’m very excited to meet the baby D’s and I hope you all have a great rush experience!

This summer I’ve been working at the Carolina Brewery and have been "playing secretary" at a law office, both of which are a THRILL. However, thankfully I’ve been able to travel a lot too- My boyfriend and I went to Hawaii at the end of May and I spent about a month in June/July in Antigua, Guatemala studying Spanish, exploring Mayan ruins and climbing volcanos! Although I went by myself, it was a great experience and I can’t wait to study abroad (perhaps in Buenos Aires to follow many of my sister’s footprints!).

This year I hope to make more trips to St. Jude’s Target House for volunteering and go back tutoring my middle schoolers at Cypress Middle School. I’ll be living with my girlllllllll, (another delta) Lizzie Steen in Stewart so come by and visit us!!

DL, Lucy
ps. I can’t wait to meet my little!!!!!

Meet Charlie Wagner!
Hey guys! My name is Charlie Wagner. I am a rising junior and just wanted to say hello before recruitment and tell you how amazing Tri Delta is! I know all you freshmen are pretty nervous and excited right now about school and everything that goes with that. Sorority life seems like just another organization or thing to do at the moment, but let me tell you it is such a great thing to get involved in!

Tri Delta has given me the opportunity to volunteer around Memphis, help the children at St. Jude, and have amazing sisters for life. If you are worried about time commitments or balancing school with activities this fall, do not worry any longer! It can be done, especially at Rhodes. We alllll do a lot outside of Tri Delt! I play field hockey and tutor at a local middle school, and I STILL get to do sisterhood and philanthropy events with Tri Delt! You cannot go wrong with any sorority at Rhodes, but we LOVEE our baby deltas!! So, get excited for recruitment, and I cannot wait to meet all of you!

Delta LOVE,
Charlie

P.S. This is me in Vinci, Italy this summer where I found three Deltas in a brick wall. As you can see, Tri Delta is famous all over the world!

Meet Caroline Mulloy!

Hola! My name is Caroline Mulloy, and I am from Louisville, Kentucky. I am a rising junior and a Political Science major with a possible Spanish minor. Basically if you asked me what I wanted to be when I was older, I would tell you that I wanted to be the President! This summer I worked as a swim coach and went on a white-water rafting trip with the good old family.

This fall I am studying abroad in Barcelona, Spain. My attempt at packing is more difficult than I planned though. I cannot wait to spend a semester abroad, but I will be so excited to come back in the spring and move into my house with 5 other Delta sisters. I hope ya’ll have had a great summer, and get excited for Recruitment-it’s so much fun!

Delta Love,
Caroline

A Note from the VP of Recruitment!

Hello there soon-to-be-baby-deltas! I know that you're out there somewhere... and we just cannot WAIT to meet you. I just wanted to let you girls know a little about Recruitment 2009 and what to expect.

First of all, make sure that you have registered for Recruitment by going onto the Rhodes website, clicking on "Campus Life," "Greek Life," and then finally "Sorority Rush Registration." Registration is open until September 2nd, but definitely don't wait that long! On the date Registration closes (9/2), you will all attend Sorority 101 where you will meet your Gamma Chi (a kind of "Recruitment Counselor") who will tell you what to expect, wear, and do during the four days of Rush Events. Your Gamma Chi is a member of one of the four sororities here on campus but has sworn to silence during Recruitment; her house will remain a mystery until Bid Day!

Secondly, keep an open mind! A benefit of going through Recruitment at Rhodes is that we only have 4 PAN houses to choose from... not dozens like some crazy big schools. You will have quality time at each house to meet the current members and get the feel of the place. The best part is... there is NO WRONG CHOICE! Where you pledge doesn't necessarily determine where your best friends will pledge, and many of my TriDelta sisters have best friends in other sororities or not in sororities at all. The most important thing is that you choose the house where you feel that you fit in, where you feel that YOU will be the perfect addition!

A last thing to remember is that we are JUST as nervous as you are! Try to ask us as many questions as we ask you... we want YOU to want US and the only way you can find that out is by getting to know us! The Recruitment events are designed so that you will be able to talk one-on-one with some different members in each house, at some point you might see some singin' and craziness... and you even get some delicious goodies.

A last, LAST thing that I am going to mention is that you should NOT be freaked out by how excited we are because OH, WE. ARE. EXCITED! You will see DDDs rockin' our Recruitment shirts, sneakin' peeks at you in class (not creepily...!), bein' loud around campus (especially in the library where we love to congregate!), and buzzin' around campus to get everything done for the different events.

Seriously, we DDDs LOVE our baby deltas... our new little sisters... the DDD future! We cannot wait to meet you and hope that you like us as much as we LOVE you!

Counting down the days...
Delta Lovin'
Mathilde, VP/Recruitment 2009
