Deltas do Memphis...

This is the 2nd post about Deltas in Memphis this summer! See what some other sisters are up to!

Other Deltas are spending their summers working for non-profit associations like Youth Villages, where our Delta Laura Deines is a role model for young children and teens in the area that need a positive figure in their lives, or the Exceptional Foundation of West Tennessee, where Meredith Martin helps special needs adults live and adjust to their community. Jennifer Whatley, is interning at the Wolf River Conservancy, which is a non-profit landtrust working to preserve the Wolf River in Memphis.

Amanda Law is a Rhodes Summer Service Fellow and working for a non-profit organization called BRIDGES in Memphis, and in June, she was a facilitator for the Bridge Builders Junior Conferences. These are six day experiences for juniors in high school from all around the city that lay aside individual, social, economic and cultural differences to work for the benefit of all. Participants build the skills necessary to improve their self-confidence, strengthen their relationships, succeed in school and take action to build a healthy community. In July, she is working at BRIDGES's office developing a youth program called the Bridge Builders College Corps. It is an opportunity for college students to receive quality leadership training and to access meaningful volunteer experiences with middle and high school youth in the Greater Memphis community.

These Deltas are taking their summer to better the greater Memphis community. Service is an essential part of the Rhodes experience, and we could not be more proud of them!

Meet Sophie Altamirano!

HI!!!! My name is Sophie Altamirano, and I am a rising sophomore from Albuquerque, New Mexico. My major is currently undecided. I'm wobbling between either a science or econ major with maybe a minor in art as my dream job would be photographing for National Geographic. This summer I have been working as a marketing intern, traveling a bit, and hanging out with friends and family. After playing in the world series of poker, my older brother just moved back to albuquerque from vegas with his pregnant wife, so ive been hanging out with them tons and counting down the days until I become an aunt! Overall, it has been a lot of fun, but I'm very ready to leave my cubicle and return to Rhodes. SO excited to be reunited with all my delta sistas and meet all the potential baby deltas!

DL,
Sophie

Meet Lindsey Beste!

Hey guys! My name is Lindsey Beste, and I’m a rising Sophomore! I’m from Minnesota the state of 10,000 lakes and really thick accents (I get made fun of a lot because of it). This summer has been fantastic! I’ve been able to relax and go on adventures with my home friends. Unlike my Tri Delta sisters I haven’t done anything too exciting or note worthy this summer. However, I have been testing my domestic skills and I’ve made a couple dresses and lots of goodies for my Tri Delta sisters!

I am really looking forward to this fall because I can’t wait to see everyone! My roommate is a fellow Tri Delta, Molly Leonard, and I know that we are just going to have a blast! As for school I’m already a little stressed out because I know I’m really going to have to buckle down. I haven’t declared a major yet but I’ll figure it out in time. I can’t wait to get back to Memphis and see all my sisters, and of course, get an AWESOME new pledge class!

Have a great rest of your summer!
DL

Get to Know a Delta

Meet Becca Diamond!

Hey! My name is Becca, and I'm a rising sophomore at Rhodes. I'm from Bethesda, Maryland, right outside of Washington, DC. I’m so excited to get back to Memphis and see all of my delta sisters whom I've missed all summer! I’m thinking of majoring in psychology and I’m also on the field hockey team with a bunch of other Tri-Delts, including Lucy Bell, on the right in the picture. This summer I'm working as a camp counselor and trying to get in shape for field hockey, which starts in a few weeks—hopefully I’ll survive preseason! I can’t wait to meet all the freshman and get an amazing pledge class of baby deltas! See you all in a couple of weeks!!

Delta Love,
Becca

Deltas do Memphis...

Check out what some of the Deltas in Memphis are up to this summer! There will be follow-up posts including information about the other Deltas in Memphis, so stay tuned!

In business internships, we have Sarah Crowley and Emily Barber at Merrill Lynch, Megan McDonald at Morgan Keegan, and Emily Barber at BRIDGES. At Merrill Lynch, Sarah and Emily are assisting in the Wealth Management division. They are responsbile for client interaction, as well as learning more about the business. They help keep the financial advisors up to date on their clients, and are also given the opportunity to help create wealth outlooks! At BRIDGES, Emily is working in the accounting department at the non-profit. It is a great experience in addition to Merrill Lynch! Sarah's picture is on the left and Emily is on the right.

Megan is working on the retail fixed income trading desk at the downtown office of Morgan Keegan where bonds and bond products are traded. It is a very lively, interactive environment where she sits amongst the traders and assists them in their daily business. Her big task this summer has been to prepare for the launching on a new bond order entry system. Megan will also continue her internship with Morgan Keegan during the fall semester. She is pictured here to the left.

These Deltas are all rising seniors and business adminstration majors working hard in Memphis this summer!

Get to Know the NEWEST Addition to Delta Psi!

Meet Alice Craddock!

Hey Yall! My name is Alice Craddock, and I am rising sophomore. I am an anthropology/sociology major, and I want to go to law school. I spent last year at LSU, but I am really excited about transferring to Rhodes and affiliating with Tri Delta in the fall. I had a great freshman year last year and loved LSU, but I came to visit Rhodes and fell in love with it. I am from Memphis and live in Chickasaw Gardens literally less than two miles away from Rhodes. Even though I am from Memphis, I don’t know that many people that go to Rhodes, and I am really excited about meeting Rhodes students. I went to boarding school at Baylor in Chattanooga (Shout out to Caroline James!) for my freshman and sophomore years of high school and then went to Immaculate Conception for my junior and senior years. I played lacrosse and volunteered in Memphis and in Chattanooga. I am really excited about volunteering in my hometown of Memphis again. This summer I have been babysitting and hanging out with friends from high school. It has been really fun and relaxing. I am really outgoing and I love getting new people. I can’t wait to meet all of yall when school starts. I know this sounds really dorky, but ask me to be your friend on facebook!!

DL,
Alice

Get to Know the Asst Music Chair!

Meet Anne Schaumburg!

Hey! My name is Anne Schaumburg. I'm a rising junior and Assitant Music Chair for Tri Delta. After working at a daycare for the first month of summer and shadowing a pediatrican, I now am in Oxford on Rhode's British Studies Program with several other Delta sisters of mine. So far I've been horseback riding in Wales, toured the battlefields of WW1, and I have so much more to see! I am a Music major with a pre-med focus (I know weird combo). I have three weeks left touring England but once I get back to Rhodes, I will be helping the Music chair (Carsen!) in teaching the sophomore class and the chapter Tri Delta ritual and ritual songs! I have been having an amazing time here but can't wait to get back to Memphis to meet all the new freshman during recruitment!!

Anne
